Navigating the Unexpected: My Experience as a Part-Time Social Media Manager
Stepping into the world of social media management can often feel like uncharted territory, especially when it happens unexpectedly. Recently, I found myself in such a situation—a part-time social media manager for multiple businesses. While I didn’t initially set out to pursue this role, an opportunity presented itself, and I chose to embrace it.
My journey began with a recent completion of a Social Media Marketing (SMM) course, driven by a desire to enhance my skills and deliver better results. Since then, I’ve taken on a comprehensive range of responsibilities, including strategy development, content planning, content creation, copywriting, and even photography—drawing upon my background in arts to produce visually engaging material.
However, as I delve deeper into the role, I’ve encountered certain challenges. One significant area of uncertainty is measuring Return on Investment (ROI) and understanding the metrics that truly gauge success. It’s become clear that there are aspects I don’t yet fully grasp—what I like to call, “knowing what I don’t know.”
Compounding these challenges is the financial aspect. I am currently earning €250 per business for my efforts, which I recognize as a modest rate considering the scope of work involved. Given my limited experience, I wonder if this compensation aligns with industry standards or if adjustments are necessary as I grow in my role.
In terms of tools and resources, I am curious about the most effective apps and platforms to streamline planning and performance tracking. Are there affordable or free tools that can help manage multiple accounts and analyze results? Moreover, should I consider subscribing to paid services to better handle my responsibilities across three businesses?
Any advice or insights from experienced social media managers would be greatly appreciated as I navigate this new and unexpectedly diverse role. Embracing opportunities to learn and adapt is key, and I look forward to refining my skills and understanding in this dynamic field.
If you’re stepping into social media management or seeking to optimize your approach, remember that continuous learning and leveraging the right tools can make a significant difference.
